Idaho Mining Outlook for 2019: Michael Murray
So what’s going on in Idaho Mining and what can we expect in 2019? Answer: a lot! Happenings for 2019 include continuation of mining and permitting/NEPA of new mines (or expansion) in the Phosphate Belt in southeast Idaho, to an anticipated Draft EIS for Midas Gold in Central Idaho, to continuation of, or new, exploration activities for gold, silver, zinc, copper, and molybdenum. In addition, updates on cobalt mining as well as Silver Valley cleanup will all be covered in this hot topic, all in 5 minutes or less!

What Just Happened with Idaho’s Steelhead Season?: Marie Callaway Kellner
In mid-November 2018, the Idaho Dept of Fish & Game announced it would suspend Idaho’s steelhead fishing season under threat of a federal lawsuit brought by six regional conservation organizations. By early December, total suspension had been avoided, though a limited suspension was in place. In 5 minutes or less, this hot topic attempts to explain what happened and why!

US Forest Service/Idaho Dept. of Lands Good Neighbor Authority Update: Teri Murrison
The 2014 Farm Bill gave the USFS tools to get more work done on the ground, providing for cross-boundary work with states through the Good Neighbor Authority (GNA). Idaho’s Good Neighbor Authority program (GNA) shows what can be achieved by state and federal agencies working together to increase active management and find collaborative solutions to challenging natural resource issues. The USFS and the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), are improving forest health, reducing fuels and threats to communities and watersheds from catastrophic wildfires, and are creating more jobs and economic benefits, as a result.
